Thompson & Morgan has produced bespoke designs for retailers such as Marks & Spencer and Selfridges. We also have worked very closely with associations such as the RHS, The Eden Project and Kew Gardens to produce their own bespoke ranges. In some cases, where the quantities are sufficient, the variety can be given a unique and relevant name to the organisation, such as for charity appeals.
The Thompson & Morgan laboratory carries out approximately 15,000 germination tests per year. When seed is bought, a small selection is passed to the seed laboratory for testing before packing. Seeds are tested in various ways depending on variety. A germination test can take anything from 7 days to 30 days depending on variety.
Thompson & Morgan began in William Thompson’s small back garden of his father’s baker shop on Tavern Street, Ipswich. He studied botany and cultivated from his small garden. Soon he joined forces with John Morgan and they moved to a small nursery on the outskirts of Ipswich, before then moving again to a larger nursery.
